Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before sprint qualifying set to begin at the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, sitting 36 points Norris, finished in P17 as his team ran a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he rotated at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before spinning across the run-off area, and was fortunate to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner leading to the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th place, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, over half a second behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
